World Mental Health Day 2025: Mental Health is a Family Matter — Breaking the Silence, Building Our Homes

At Nyumba Yetu, we believe that mental health doesn’t live in isolation—it lives in our homes, in our relationships, in the quiet pain behind closed doors. This World Mental Health Day, celebrated globally on October 10th, we’re turning the spotlight on a truth we can no longer ignore: When one person struggles with their mental health, the whole family feels it.

In Kenya, many families carry silent wounds—caused by untreated trauma, addiction, depression, and the weight of stigma. This year, under the theme “Mental Health is a Family Matter”, we are creating a space where healing begins not in hospitals, but around kitchen tables, family gatherings, and honest conversations.

Through storytelling, community events, and powerful dialogues, Nyumba Yetu is calling every home to remember this: you are not alone, and healing is possible—together.
